Piglets now available to go March 20th 2010Two girls, Lucy and Lizzie are now in thier farrowing pens and Lucy gave birth to 10 piglets on the 6th of Feb, Lizzie is due in a week or so. They will be ready to go in 6 weeks. If you want to guarantee getting a pair of piglets a £30 deposit is required. Two pairs have been booked already and as soon as piglets are avialable we get lots of enquiries.
New year Sale Two adult breeding sows and One breeding boar plus neutered friend for sale (sows can be put in pig if required) Due to changes in our circumstances we have decided to downsize our herd and are looking for good homes for 2 of our breeding sows and 1 of our boars, plus his neutered friend ( all are about 3 years old and in prime condition so they have at least a good 4 years more breeding left ). We can sell for a lot less than the piglet prices ( £45 each) as transport is an issue and we are more concerned with finding a loving home. The 2 girls are Madaline and Nellie and we can have them visit the boar before they go so you could potentialy get a bunch of piglets as well for your money. Also Homer the boar and Tolgus his friend need a home. If you only want a pair then we recommend you have either the 2 boys or the 2 girls as we know these pairs get on well. Having 1 boy and one girl isn't possible as you would have to keep them separate half the year. All together the 4 pigs would make a very nice starter herd for sombody with the space, but you would need to have room to keep the boys in a seperate paddock from the girls otherwise you would be over-run with piglets. Of course proper pig transport would is needed, a stock trailer or a horse box or lorry of some kind is fine. We cant sell any singly. pairs or more only but if anyone wants to take all 4 we will sell for £160 CONTACT US IF YOU ARE INTERESTED |
Meet the herd
Here are portraits of all my adult breeding pigs
Matida is Grandma and we dont breed with her anymore.
Homer is our Boar, he's a real sweety,
Madaline, Nellie, Elizabeth and Lucy all had piglets in spring 2008 and 2009,
Annie and Bumblebee will be ready for breeding in spring 2010.
Tolgus is my biggest pig, he's a neutered boar and keeps Homer company
(when he has no girls to stay.) .
Cornish pet pigs are a small crossbred pig ideal for keeping as pets.
They are not exactly the same as the "Pennywell Pigs" but very similar.
Their breeding includes a good amount of New Zealand Kune Kune,
a very good-natured breed, some miniature potbelly and a little wild boar.
They are all hairy with black and white patches,
all have been handled from birth where possible and
all the males will have been castrated.
If you want an entire boar for breeding let us know in good time as all
male piglets have to be castrated at 3 weeks old.
We charge £300 for a single breeding boar and he must have
the company of a castrated male unless he is to be run with
a herd of sows all the time which I wouldn't recommend.
You would be overrun with piglets all year round.
Here is a link to a 32 page PDF with all the government legislation pertaining to pigs.
And her is another PDF that DEFRA produce for all new pig keepers.
The welfare of our pigs is paramount hence the need to sell them in pairs,
pigs are herd animals and hate to be alone. We get
asked if a dog or other pets would be a good substitute and keep a
lone pig company but we have to say no, we believe it would be
cruel to keep a pig without any of its own kind to be with.
This also means that we have to check all prospective buyers and
if we are not 100% happy with the set up we reserve the right to refuse a sale.
We only sell to UK buyers, pigs don’t do stress well and I wouldn't
want to put one through a long flight so please dont ask us.
We are based near Redruth in Cornwall.
