To keep a pig you have to have a holding number from DEFRA,
they like to keep tabs on all pig movements as a disease control measure,
this is easy and free to arrange but you must have the
number before the pigs are transported
as it has to be filled in on the pig movement licence.
Also if you would want to take your pigs for a walk
you have to contact DEFRA and obtain a pet pig walking licence
and arrange an agreed route to which you must always keep to.
To apply for an Agricultural Holding Number please telephone the
Rural Payments Agency (RPA) Customer Service Centre on
0845 6037777 between 8:30 am and 5 pm Monday -
Friday and holidays, and between 9 am and 5 pm at weekends.
